ASAS-GSD is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive after-school and out-of-school programs that keep children safe and help them achieve in school and in life. Serving 3500 students in 15 schools throughout San Diego County, we provide free academic assistance, extracurricular enrichment programs, and sports activities five day a week during the “danger zone” hours of 3:00 to 6:00 pm. It is during this time period when youth are most at risk of becoming involved in violence, crime, drugs, and unsafe sexual behavior, and therefore, need our programs the most.
Each spring, ASAS-GSD holds an event to raise critical funds to continue our after-school programs.
This year, our Stars and Strikes event is expected to attract nearly 350 people to compete in a friendly game of bowling and raise $60,000 to support our academic programs, ensuring that at-risk youth in San Diego complete each grade promotion successfully. With the cost of providing free services to children increasing each year, the success of this event is critical. .
